The project involves the construction of a new 3 story building, modifications to the existing adjacent buildings and external works. The facility incorporates 7 new classrooms and 6 quiet rooms, 2 offices, SkyPath link between two buildings, reconfiguration of the roofing to Thompson Hall, modifications to Stables Office area and fire compartment separation upgrades. The construction of the building included a structural steel frame, concrete floor slabs and a full height glazed curtain wall to 3 elevations. Difficulties included ensuring the school assembly hall and gymnasium remained watertight once the roof was removed to facilitate the new SkyPath corridor which was constructed within the Hall at high level. This was achieved by constructing a weatherproof B class catch scaffold over the operational Hall. The new structural steel fire rated high level walkway had to be constructed without interference to the Hall operation. The location of the new building within the school campus was such that access was extremely limited resulting in careful logistic planning being required to ensure the safe construction of the works within the live school environment. The completed standard of finish was high, and the management processes adopted provided for a successful outcome of this Project which was completed in accordance with the original construction programme.
