The design and construction consists of a new eight-storey, 15,000m2, 620-room student accommodation and educational facility. Typically, around 10m2 in size, rooms are fully furnished with shelving, a bar fridge, and a wall-mounted fan. The floors house unisex and accessible amenities as well as flexible break-out study and relaxation areas. Level 1 is the common floor featuring a large modern communal kitchen, a TV and games room, incubator spaces, outdoor barbecue courtyard, learning hubs, teaching spaces and an administration centre. The basement contains the central laundry, three music rooms and a bike storage area.
Quality features in the Regiment accommodation building are the Wingara Mura wrapped façade screen design, the reconstruction of the existing 150-year-old heritage wall and the University of Sydney sustainability silver design rating.
Richard Crookes’ collaborative partnership with the university and Nettletontribe architects, consultants and sub-contractors fostered the design and delivery of a defect-free, high-quality building, and is of a high standard.
