This house, the contractor’s largest project to date, is three stories high set on a double waterfront block and took some 24 months to build. The contract involved the demolition of two existing houses, the excavation of close to 4000 square metres of rock, and the use of a site crane, which after the structure was built, was also used to service the stonemasons who undertook 1200 square metres of stone wall cladding. Material handling to foreshore works, beyond the crane’s reach, were accomplished via barge. The large two storey lifting window is a feature of the central staircase entry space. The staircase is three storeys high and the edges and risers are clad in Italian travertine to create a continuous solid tread block look. According to the judges, the finishes, both internally and externally, are faultless. Great use of copper, zinc and stonework was incorporated throughout, with the stone masons being onsite for 12 months. An excellent job.
