The builder’s aim in this project was to build a duplex that stood out from the rest of the many duplexes being built in the Panania area. This was achieved with a build that from the street creates a most impressive yet simple facade.

The design is a modern, very simple, minimalistic look, with the building constructed on the low side of the street. The residence stands proudly in the street with a driveway that is not too steep, achieved by the importation of 300m³ of compactable fill to bench the site. A number of innovative building techniques were employed by the builder such as the shadowline skirtings which have been constructed using an acrylic render instead of timber. The parapet at the front elevation was eliminated, leaving the balcony roof with clean lines and a very modern appeal to the façade. 

Compliance with council requirements for the west-facing alfresco area was achieved by installing a retractable roof system which can be left open during hot summer days and in the cooler months retracted to allow maximum sunlight into the living areas.

A worthy winner with most appealing, innovative techniques to produce a very comfortable and liveable residence.
