For this project that was amplified by all aspects of sustainability and the importance of their eco footprint at every stage.
The L’Occitane Bondi ‘Green Store’ features the highest quality construction, emphasises the use of environmentally considered local materials and draws on unique eco-conscious innovation and ideas. This 5 Star Green Star Rating compliant de-fit and fit out is a world first and was completed to the highest quality construction standards.
Working with the Green Building Council of Australia (GBCA) to attain their acclaimed qualification required a high standard of excellence in sustainable and environmentally conscious design, construction, and operation to achieve the coveted 5 Star Green Star rating. A requirement was to demonstrate dedication to reducing waste and promoting sustainable habits with the de-fit of the existing store by relocating and re-using joinery and lighting fixtures at nearby stores
The Green Star system places importance on the reduction of transport and therefore all joinery for this project was sourced and constructed in Sydney to reduce the carbon footprint and to support quality local small and medium suppliers.
Additional research was required to source Low VOC materials in keeping with the parameters of the project without compromising on quality and result. This impacted decisions made around the selection of:
•    Glue
•    Silicone
•    Board
•    Paint
•    New lighting system including focus on energy saving LED
•    Sustainably harvested timber
•    Stone bench top made from recycled bottles
The visual centrepiece of the store is the Green Wall, the plants help metabolise toxins in the air, while at the same time releasing oxygen into the air but at a much larger scale than regular potted plants, acting as a natural air filter to maximise the Indoor Environmental Quality, as well as a living breathing nod to the client’s brand mission. This unique offering was created with a fully integrated irrigation system which works to recycle and minimise water wastage. UV lights were also designed and implemented to maintain the feature long term with the restrictions on natural light within the space.
The finished project is a bright comfortable shop with a low environmental impact, sitting in a restricted environment. It is a worthy Winner of the 2022 Excellence in Construction - Environment Award.
