Kincoppal has a masterplan to upgrade the school campus and buildings and the Year 10 upgrade is stage one of this masterplan. Located on the third floor of the main building, this building, built in 1882, is registered with the NSW Heritage Office. 
The three-level Year 10 area was upgraded to suit current education spaces and technology. Works required the removal of major internal structural walls and 7.5m-long steel beams were required to replace the walls. This meant careful on-site handling. Lower floors remained occupied and extensive complex propping was required. The project was completed in a commendable 12 weeks.
Access for students and their educational activities during term was maintained.
The builder was required to keep the front of school free of any visible construction activity as the campus is regularly used for weddings. All work was undertaken at the back of the building and damage to the fabric of the heritage building was avoided.
The Year 10 wing has been named in honour of Sister Philomene Tiernan RSCJ, who died when the MH17 aircraft crashed over the Ukraine.
