Set on a 416 square metre triangular shaped site in Stanmore’s heritage conservation zone the existing 4-metre-high, 350mm thick perimeter brick walls enclosing the site were retained, while the entire interior structure was gutted and removed to make way for the two new residences. A significant construction challenge involved firstly stabilising and then cutting the new entry and garage openings within the perimeter walls whilst ensuring the existing fig vines encapsulating the walls were retained and kept in good health on completion of the project. All new works were framed in timber and clad in simple lightweight materials selected to limit load on the existing structure such as the Weathertex façades with expressed rough sawn battens, aluminium windows, and Colourbond roofs. Overall, a challenging and well executed project that the Builder and his team can be justly proud.
