This project is a new 750 car on grade parking facility to the Northwest of Emu Plains station. This Project has been delivered on a difficult site with a number of site constraints, including Railways interaction, a very large Stormwater Detention basin and Rainwater gardens, a new steel pedestrian Bridge over Old Bathurst Rd linking to the station, Sydney Water services diversions, HV power, upgrade of roads, providing continuing school access, upgrade of connection to Nepean Creative Arts High School, Aboriginal Heritage works and extensive landscaping. Construction of the Pedestrian Bridge. Lifting the pedestrian footbridge into place was planned over a 6-month period with coordination and approval required from various road and rail authorities. The bridge was transported from the fabrication yard in Glendenning to Emu Plains and then lifted into place using one 650 tonne crane. The challenge of lifting the bridge whilst overhead power lines remained live was a key risk. This was managed through extensive planning and consultation, on-site management and controls during the lift. With the lifting timeframe being coordinated within a weekend shutdown of Old Bathurst Road and the adjacent train line the successful installation of the bridge was a major milestone and credit to the entire team. Stephen Edwards Constructions have done a great job in pulling all the different groups together, resolving the issues and delivering a successful Project.
