HammondCare Wahroonga is a new, dementia-specific, four-level residential aged care facility and has a total capacity of 57 beds divided into six private apartments for between nine and 12 residents. The layout is designed around a unique model of personal and individual care. Accommodation features premium-level finishes and fittings, individual rooms, landscaped gardens and terraces.
Each residential “apartment” is centered around a domestic kitchen and open-plan living and dining. Each living area also has an external balcony offering leafy park views. The works also involved the extensive refurbishment and restoration of historic Woonona Cottage located to the south, which included extensive underpinning. The underpinning was required to stabilise and provide additional support to the existing cottage, in addition, the adjacent RACF lower floor was some 4m below the floor of the existing cottage. A feature of the renovation was the replacement of the existing gutters and downpipes and the installation of a new Welsh slate roof.
The builder faced many challenges on this project including the remediation of the site and the lowering of a Sydney Water sewer line. The building and its fixtures is finished to a high standard.
