This new five-storey multi-use learning facility includes state-of-the-art teaching spaces, staff rooms, art studios, gymnasium and a 211-seat performance theatre. The upper levels of the building contain general learning classrooms, art studios, a variety of multi-purpose spaces and offices plus staff and student toilets. The new building links up with adjoining buildings via open courtyards and outdoor learning spaces on multiple levels.  Cutting-edge audio-visual, IT services and the latest security technology were installed throughout the building. A professional theatre-grade audio system with automated theatre lighting, curtains, projectors and screen was installed to service the performance theatre.  The project was particularly challenging due to the limited site area, which was effectively the same as the building footprint. Bordered on three sides by the existing and heritage school buildings, the project required an extensive 11m excavation in sand and rock to create the performance and theatre space. Steeply sloping street access and an underground stream added to the difficulties on the site. Permanent water pumps were installed and are still in use today.  This building has a high-quality standard of finish and is an exceptional facility for the school that will be enjoyed by students and staff for many years to come.
