The client required an area in which they could stop, sit, relax and talk about life with their young family. With this brief in mind the builder came up with the design which certainly achieved the client’s desires by using a combination of materials and high exposed rafters. The sandstone-clad timber fireplace is the focal point of the room. As the room faces south there was an essential need for natural light. The large bay windows and gable windows allow the light to come right into the room. Adding three Velux skylights to the roofline brings the afternoon light right into the heart of the room. The client now calls this their grand room. Extending the courtyard deck and building is a new barbecue area that adds to the use of the backyard and the versatility of the new “grand” room.
