The Cardinal Freeman Village Redevelopment comprised of two stages. Stage 1 involved the removal of existing residential quarters and cafe to allow the provision of temporary residents and staff car park and the construction of buildings two and three to provide “ageing in place-style” accommodation.

Buildings two and three shared a split-level basement and contained 56 independent living apartments and external landscape areas.

The works also involved remodelling and upgrading the existing chapel and converting the underfloor space with the construction of a now-operational cafe. The chapel facade is a focal point of the development, having been extensively repaired and painted to its original intended colours. Many of the stained glass windows were removed and refurbished and three new stone roof crosses carved and installed.

The works contain a Village Green precinct and clubhouse with a new internal pool, gymnasium, theatre room, dance floor, lounge, bar area and billiards area.
The builders displayed exceptional management of the project with limited working hours and the coordination of material deliveries and concrete pours to suit the special requirements of the existing residents.
