The new BMW & Mini showrooms and service centre building is located on a very prominent position adjacent to New South Head Road at Rushcutters Bay. The construction involved the demolition of an old showroom/workshops on the site and then a complete new build over six levels. As well as showing off the new and used cars to best effect, the new facility can service up to 150 cars daily. Some impressive project features include:
• 11,000m3 of concrete poured
• A ‘bespoke’ structural-steel staircase spanning three levels
• 500 lineal metres of 6m-high double glazing combined with sliding auto doors and swing doors
- 3400m2 of floor tiling and 870m2 of paving.
The site was very tight and awkward, right next to the eastern entrance to the Cross City Tunnel. Taylor overcame this challenge and has produced a very high-quality building which is now a landmark of the area.
