Tectonic Pools was challenged with an interesting client request – to build a pool that is unique in its own way. The client had rough ideas, such as the pool had to be circular, but other than that, he relied on the builder and his experience. After an initial consultation, the client was open to Tectonic Pools’ suggestions. The pool had to be proportional as it is on a big property and the client decided on a large pool with a pebble finish. The builder had to overcome several obstacles – keeping a palm tree alive, the challenge of the natural changing contour and sloping land, and pool positioning to suit the symmetry of the house. The palm was part of the property several years ago, when the client purchased the property, and he always envisaged the palm to be an integral part of the pool, but wasn’t sure how to execute the combination. Creating a pool that would have an island with a palm was already seen on several occasions and Tectonic looked for an original approach. Sloping ground was another obstacle. The client agreed on a cascading pool, positioning the palm tree at the beginning of the pool. The ballast tank continues the cascading look and gives a disappearing edge effect. The builder decided not to have the same water spillway on both pools, to add to the pool’s uniqueness. He created the first (on the upper pool) to be a uniform water curtain by providing an extra pump to ensure there is enough flow over the 10m-long edge, to guarantee an unbroken curtain effect. The second spillway at the ballast tank was broken by installing tiles on the wall, with the tiles protruding randomly and indented by 3-5mm, scattered along the wall to give a multi-waterfall effect. Illuminating the pool was vital for the aesthetic look of the overall design and finish. This is one of the highlights of the finished product, adding uniqueness and continuous visual flow throughout the cascading pools. The overall combination of unique design, integrating landscape and nature, absolute symmetry of positioning in relation to the house and palm, and attention to detail of style and visual effect has resulted in a happy and satisfied client who is proud of this showcase pool.
