Vaughan Constructions demolished an existing 3200sqm, 24m-high warehouse and replaced it with a 5000sqm, 32m automated highbay warehouse. The site remained fully operational for pre-mix and liquor bottling, and the package and distribution plant throughout the construction period. This 24/7 facility has robotic collection and capacity for storage in the dark. As a result, light and manhandling is not required. Vaughan redesigned the existing services so as to not clash with the new services. This resulted in a delay of eight weeks, which was overcome by detailed co-ordination, reprogramming and multiple shifts. The structural steel was designed and erected in two stages to reduce the risk in erecting one column 32m in length. A number of other initiatives enabled construction to maintain program under difficult circumstances. The facility has been constructed and finished to a high standard within an existing facility.
