The work included the demolition of the existing CMRI building and the construction of a new eight-level research facility to PC2 laboratory standard including specialist tissue culture rooms, wet laboratories, Dewars rooms, Mass Spectrometer facility and administration areas.
The external finishes comprised well-finished pre-cast concrete, curtain wall panels and off-form concrete.
Difficulties encountered were a very limited building footprint and surrounding site area, limits on available temporary power, adjacent 24-hour ambulance access and close proximity to an existing occupied building.
Detailed planning and communication were necessary to overcome the above issues. 
A W Edwards produced a high standard of finish for both the internal finishes and the external off-form concrete and pre-cast components.
