This project comprised a new accident and emergency building consisting of eight new ambulance bays, five resuscitation bays, separate ambulance and triage bays, seven-bed fast-track area, 12-bed pediatric precinct, six-bed PECC facility, 12-bed EMU facility, a further 34 beds, CT imaging room, pharmacy training, meeting rooms and hospital administration. Major services infrastructure upgrade was also included in the scope of works.
Initially, the existing substation was relocated to within the building footprint before relocating existing staff into the existing hospital. Edwards took the initiative to alter construction methods to overcome issues found in the ground in order to maintain program. Throughout the construction period, access was maintained for deliveries of blood and general hospital supplies, ambulances, staff and the public.
Edwards co-operated and took the initiative with Health Infrastructure and St George Hospital to overcome electrical supply issues that allowed the hospital to maintain the hospital’s original “go live” date.
The initiative taken by Edwards to overcome restraints and achieve a high quality of finish was a credit to the team.
