The heritage Gateway Entrance Building has been restored to its former glory with the removal of unsympathetic and intrusive elements that had been added over many decades.
An inner plaza has been created where patrons can view several exhibits and purchase goods from the tourist shop before actually entering the zoo.
An outer plaza has also been created in the forecourt area; the heritage listed tram shed has been restored into the Zoo Friends Office.   
The work was completed in 18 months.
