The Equinix SY9 Data Centre is a large and complex telecommunications Centre. It provides 30.2 MW of IT capacity with six data halls, a generator building and a front of house office building. The project took 77 weeks to build, employed an average of 175 workers, and cost in the order of $170 million.
The judges were impressed with the engineering challenges that AW Edwards overcame. Namely the local groundwater was contaminated with heavy metals and the existing site was contaminated with friable asbestos.  These problems were overcome by raising the whole site by 1.5 metres and then building the new structure on the new capping pad.
AW Edwards have shown a lot of professionalism and expertise on this project. Sophisticated BIM modelling was used, the finished building quality is excellent and high standards of Safety Management and Industrial Relations were maintained throughout the build.
