The extensive refurbishment of the 50-year-old plus engineering and telecommunications building was technically challenging and complex due to its prominent location on campus.
The 14,000m2 refurbishment over the six-storey south block and five-storey north block generally consists of teaching laboratories, technician offices, workshops, computer rooms, lecture theatres, amenities and research laboratories. A new plant room, hot and chilled water plant and cooling towers, water storage and back-up generators were provided along with specialised equipment such as a fibre-optic draw tower, lasers and two anechoic chambers.
The building incorporates many environmentally sustainable design features such as that of a 5-star green facility. A W Edwards adopted a collaborative and proactive approach to management in all aspects of the project with the client, the design team, building users and other stakeholders. 
The project was successfully delivered on time and finished with an outstanding level of quality.
