This Joint Health Education Facility aims to promote the teaching of medical and health courses at a regional centre while developing and contributing to a sustainable health workforce for the Mid North Coast region.
The project comprises a two-storey building encompassing the construction of two lecture theatres, anatomy laboratory and preparation facilities plus interlinked PC2 wet lab, simulation suite with two laboratories plus associated storage and teaching support, student common areas, specialist rooms and therapy suites, staff kitchen and student canteen/café provision on the ground floor. There’s also parking for 85 cars and landscaping.
The construction was a concrete-framed building with a lightweight facade system of glass and composite cladding. Roofing was steel framed with metal roof sheeting.
The internal finishes were well executed. Laboratory areas required particular attention to achieve the performance criteria specified. In the main lecture theatre, perforated moulded plywood was utilised on bulkheads and walls, providing a quality feel. Theatres were fitted out with the latest AV technology to facilitate state-of-the-art teaching.
Timber ceiling linings were also utilised to good effect in several locations throughout the building. Finishes were well executed.
Externally, a plaza with membrane roofing, paving and landscaped planters, all well executed, add to the quality feeling of the building.
