This project was complicated by the existing hospital on the site remaining open and functional during the construction period. Detailed planning with the stakeholders ensured the demolition and the construction was undertaken with no unplanned disruption to the hospital’s operations. 
The construction included the refurbishment and extension of the existing hospital to increase capacity from 27 beds to 53 beds and an additional self-contained accommodation delivering a further 10 beds.
Whitcon had complications in taking over from another builder and the inherent impact on working relationships, renegotiations and accounts; being a mental health facility required additional supervision and diligence with unattended tools and equipment; being in a residential area and surround by residences presented noise issues which were handled professionally and minimised the impact on the neighbours.
The works have overcome numerous obstacles and has been finished to a high standard.
