This building contract for the construction of a Catholic Church and Parish House was unique in that many of the works/materials to the church were donated, and/or undertaken by the local community, including the supply/installation of appliances, fire services, and the granite used for the baptistery floor, altar area and steps and borders. Many of the fit-out items were sourced from overseas which required a high level of pre-planning and co-ordination, as many of the items had extensive lead times. The building site is located in the grounds of a large primary school which created extensive management problems regarding noise, logistics, safety, traffic management and materials handling.
The high ceiling spaces in the church created challenges for the application of the finishes to incorporate acoustical, lighting and audio–visual technologies.
Project completion was accelerated to coincide with the Christmas celebrations of 2009.
