Top 50 Builders Luncheons

Sydney Division organises four Top 50 Builders Luncheons per year which are attended by both residential and commercial contractors, sub-contractors and suppliers. The Top 50 Builders Luncheons feature presentations by prominent industry personalities and experts as well as both state and federal politicians. Guest speakers include developers, head contractors, allied industry representatives, economists, consultants and union representatives.

Past speakers have included the NSW Planning Minister, the Hon Brad Hazzard, the Managing Director of Meriton, Harry Triguboff, the State Secretary of Unions NSW, Mark Lennon, the CEO of the Property Council of Australia, Peter Verwer, the Federal Opposition Leader, Tony Abbott and the CEO of Grocon, Daniel Grollo. The Building Degree Graduate of the Year Awards and the Student Estimator of the Year Awards are also presented at two of the four luncheons held each year.

Building Degree Graduate of the Year Awards

The MBA Building Degree Graduate of the Year Awards is an initiative of the Sydney Division of the Association to encourage recent building and engineering graduates to remain and excel within the building and construction industry.

These awards recognise a graduates’ knowledge of the industry, their particular skills including the ability to work as part of a team on site and the overall attitude of the graduate. Each entrant in these awards, which are highly contested, is personally interviewed by a panel of judges comprising the current managing directors of major contractors.

The awards are presented at a Top 50 Builders Luncheon. Sponsor of these Awards are Bluescope Buildings.

Student Estimator of the Year Awards

The Student Estimator of the Year Awards is an initiative implemented by the Sydney Division of the MBA to encourage university students graduating with a building/engineering degree to work as an estimator in the building industry, given the severe shortage of estimators in the industry.

The Awards are presented to the best student in the estimating stream of their building or engineering degree from each of the four NSW universities offering such courses. The winning students, chosen by the head professor from the department, are presented with their awards and cash prizes at one of the Division’s Top 50 Builders Luncheons each year.
