The NSW Government is introducing State Agency League Tables to track the performance of 22 state agencies involved in development approvals, aiming to boost transparency and accountability. A similar initiative applied to local councils last year led to a 10% improvement in Development Application processing times. The new league tables will focus on how well state agencies handle Concurrences, Integrated development approvals, and Referrals (CIRs), measuring both volume and whether they meet legislated timeframes - targeting a 90% compliance rate.
This move coincides with the launch of a second league table tracking state government performance on housing delivery across NSW. Developed by the Housing Taskforce, this tool is designed to fast-track housing assessments and project commencements. While the initiative aims to accelerate development, it raises questions about how agencies will be supported to meet these targets and what consequences they’ll face if they fall short.
