On Wednesday 21st April, 2021, NSW Building Commissioner, David Chandler addressed nearly 200 people at a sold out MBANSW event. The Hon Kevin Anderson also addressed the meeting via video.

The Design and Building Practitioners Act 2020 and the Residential Apartment Buildings (Compliance and Enforcement Powers) Act 2020 are two of the most significant pieces of legislation the NSW building and construction industry has seen in decades.

As part of major reform to how the building and construction industry conducts its business and constructs the built environment, particularly in the apartment building sector, these pieces of legislation set the scene for major structural change.

Sweeping new powers give the building regulator the right to conduct site inspections on any project, at any time. The regulator can also stop projects with serious defects and delay the issuing of Occupation Certificates.
